Inspired to Serve! (Community Outreach)

Jesus said to His disciples, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” And this includes our own. This commission is for all who desire to follow Christ and share the Good News of His saving grace and invitation to faith. At Resurrection Lutheran Church, we cherish the Gospel, which is why we also wish to share it with our family, friends, and neighbors (in Cairo and Greene County). Below are some opportunities to serve by reaching out to our community…

01.) Music Brunch: A Morning Brunch and Musical Game (Sunday, July 25th) after the 10:30am worship service, on the lawn. Invite a Friend! We are seeking volunteers to help with activities and cooking.

02.) Greene County Youth Fair: We will be hosting a booth at the Greene County Youth Fair this year! Volunteers will hand out information about Joyful Christian Preschool and Resurrection Lutheran Church, help children make sand-art cross necklaces, and have some friendly conversations with visitors about faith, our church, and ministry opportunities (Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Two & You, Grace Place, Music Programs, etc.) The Youth Fair (July 27th – July 29th) runs from 9:00am – 9:00pm. Please consider signing up for a 2-hour time slot, and help us to represent Christ in our community by serving our friends in Cairo.

03.) Vacation Bible School: Vacation Bible School is an annual week-long event, during which children of our community come to have fun and learn more about God. It runs from 9am to 12pm, Monday through Friday (August 21st – August 25th). We are seeking volunteers to help greet parents, and lead the daily activity stations. If you’re interested, you may serve all week or a couple hours… any and all help is appreciated!

04.) Music BBQ: A Evening BBQ, Campfire, and Sing-Along (Wednesday, August 16th) at 6:15pm, at RLC. If you're a guitarist, bring your guitar along! Invite a Friend! We are seeking volunteers to help with activities and cooking.

05.) VBS Closing Ceremony: This year we will be wrapping up Vacation Bible School week by hosting a closing ceremony on Friday evening (August 25th) with singing, activities, and a dinner for Vacation Bible School families. We are seeking volunteers to help with activities and cooking.

13.) Sunday Worship Live-Streaming: In a couple months our church will be ready to start live-streaming our worship services to YouTube and Facebook, at which point we will need volunteers to help control/monitor the video system. Training will be provided; if you are tech-savvy, please consider volunteering.

In years past, our congregation has hosted a variety of community outreach activities and events. Now that the pandemic has lessened, we believe it’s time to bring them back!
